Goals 2017

We have all been exposed to New Years Resolutions.  We have grown up with them.  We all make them, and we all have failed miserably with them.  Or at least I have.  I guess we are all human, none of us are perfect. Right?

So how do we perfect our imperfections?  How do we stay on the road to our resolutions?  I have been thinking about this since January 1 of this year.  My plant based diet has been going very well I think.  I have made huge strides in my journey this past year, but I need to make it better somehow.

I was reading today on Facebook, which is where I get a lot of my inspiration, and I came across another plant based eater and how she has a bullet journal.  What the heck is that?  I started watching YouTube videos about this type of journaling.  (A person can find soooo many things and tutorials on YouTube!)  Anyway, it's a type of journaling that helps you stay productive.  I find so many times during my life where my life is stagnant.  Or I don't get done what I set out to do ages ago.  I have several books that I bought on Amazon that I haven't read yet.  They are collecting dust, or I just read excerpts out of them and use what I need.  I know that I would gain so much more knowledge on a great many things if I would just finish!  How many of us have started things that we never have finished.  We have all been there.

Well this type of journaling should help.  Take a look at this video to see how it works.  I am really considering doing this.  I think it will help to write things down.  When I get an idea for a blog post, I should write it down, but I forget and consequently I forget what I was going to write about.   https://youtu.be/OuaaotSpifM

Goals should be written down, and reviewed often.  This would help with meal planning, shopping lists, doctors appointments, exercising.  Even chores that need to get done.  I don't know how many times I have gone to do something and I get side track, and never get back to the chore or project at hand because I forget.

How do you get started you ask?  Watch the video above, check out more YouTube videos as well as there are a ton!  Also there are many ideas on Pinterest.  It doesn't have to be perfect, or beautiful, or stylish.  It's your journal, and you can make it look anyway you want.

I'm excited to start one!  Lets write our stuff down, and get stuff done!  By the way, my goals for this year is to get another 50 pounds off of my body.  I want to stop eating ANY oil except an occasional avocado and nuts.  I want to rid my taste buds of sweets, and get rid of the salt.

On a side note, they call it a bullet journal because it's sectioned off by these little dots.  Makes it easier to section off with a ruler.

     LETS DO THIS!

On a side not, Physical Therapy is going well.  I think I'm getting stronger.  I worked yesterday and walked a good 5 miles.  Hopefully as I lose this extra weight things will get better!

I Started Physical Therapy

Since going to the doctor for my knee, and getting the shot I have felt great!  I feel like my knee is better.  The doctor also ordered physical therapy for me.  I really didn't want to go as I felt I didn't need it for my knee, but the shot gives you a false sense of security that all is well.  All is not well.

I ended up going as I had the appointment and even though there is a ton of snow in our town I made it, and I'm glad I did.  The PT said that my hip and knee are weak.  He also said that I have inflammation around the knee.  I didn't think I did since it wasn't swollen at all.

First order of business was using an ultrasound machine.  The ultrasound was not for diagnostic, but for the inflammation.  I wasn't sure how it worked, but I just read an article.  It's a good read and informative.  http://physicaltherapyweb.com/therapeutic-ultrasound/

After the ultrasound, the PT did several things to figure out what my strength was.  Needless to say I'm a weakling.  Not only is my knee weak, but so is my hip.  He did a bunch of stretching to my leg.  It was a bit uncomfortable having my leg stretched over his shoulder.  I guess because I'm a pretty private person.

He then had me do several exercises.  By the time we were done, my leg was tired!!!  He also gave me a paper with exercises on it that I am to do at home.

I got to thinking that had I exercised on a regular basis perhaps this wouldn't have happened at this age.  It would have happened as I was destined to get osteoarthritis, but I might have been able to prolong the inevitable.  It is what it is.  I have to get off my butt and do what it takes to make things better.  I need to lose weight, and exercise my knee so that I can work my job for a year until I can get enough paid time off to have it replaced.

Just another reason to eat a plant based diet.  I have made the commitment to stop eating vegan junk food.  There is a ton of food out there that are vegan, but it's not necessarily good for you.  They are laden with sugar and fat and salt.  A whole foods (not processed) plant based diet with little to no oil, salt or sugar is what is best.  Is it going to be easy?  NO, but what it boils down to is do I really want to get better?  The answer is yes.  I will put off surgery as long as possible.

Here is to a new year and a new lifestyle!  I have 50 pounds to lose, and I will lose it!  I'm determined to get it done.  How about you?  What are your goals for the new year?  Pick something that isn't too hard, but will improve  your life greatly.  We all can improve, and we all can do it together!  None of us are alone.  Let's do this!
